Nu Orlans (New Orleans to Outsiders)

We've been seeing quite a bit of this unusual town. It's nothing like we've seen so far on our trips to the United States. We like the fact that here we're experiencing, for the first time since we left Los Angeles, double figure temperatures. It's like our winters in Brisbane. Our B&B is just outside the French Quarter, about twenty minutes walk. I haven't walked so much in a very long time.

Yesterday we jumped on a Hop On - Hop Off Bus which took us though the whole town, on the upstairs open area. We have also jumped onto the local trams to get around.

This morning we had joined Natasha, a local photographer on a three-hour walking tour through the French Quarter, where we not only learnt the history of the place, but the ins and outs of our own cameras, which was good for me because i don't read manuals. At least now I know how to set various settings for different shots.

Of course everywhere you go there are jazz bands in the street playing. It really is a great atmosphere.

  1. Aaaaaah !!!! Memories of one of my favourite cities on the planet - except for my lovely silk, expensive tie being cut up at Ragtime Cowboy Joes and then being in such a state of drunkeness when I returned to my hotel, "The Downtower" in Bourbon Street and diving into the shallow end of the pool fully dressed in an endeavour to sober up ( I did ) with blood pouring out of my chest and a doctor having to be called. Yes - "Nu Oleans" is way up there with Copenhagen,
Salzburg, Barcelona, Monte Carlo, Hua Hin (Thailand), Nusa Dua (Bali), Charleston - SC, and Munich with the best, and Altanta - Ga, is not far behind.
Pity about Brennans, you may have to return????

The weather here is SLIGHTLY warmer - make that HUMID. Go sit in a sauna to be prepared - ha ha.
Great reporting William of Tell, much appreciated.
    Cheers

    2. I think you would be disappointed with New Orleans in 2014. It is not like it used to be. The action is no longer in tacky Bourbon St but in Frenchmen St. Royal St is fun too there were bands and entertainers during the day too.

  2. The photography walking tour sounded fun. These are lovely photos too. I love the cartoonist with his young model, and the silhouette horse. X

  3. I've always thought New Orleans would be an interesting place to visit, especially if you were in the habit of staying up all night and sleeping during the day, which is not really me. The heat and humidity also puts me off, but it seems it is ok at this time of the year. Don't tell the U3A students you don't read manuals.
