The Cleanup has began in Brisbane

The Aussie spirit came to the fore today with thousands of people volunteering to clean affected streets and houses. Here are some detail of the Channel 7 news tonight.

  1. On a smaller scale it looks like here only people are freezing, houses are without heating and electricity and of course the streets and gardens look terrible full of mudd. Here too people are very helpful. It's good to know that when you are in real trouble, we are helping each other.

  2. Well done Bill.
I was really overwhelmed with pride when I saw the bucket, spade, mop "army" waiting for the train on Albion Station to take them to Boondall Registration Centre.

  3. Yes, it brings tears to the eyes. I agree with Gattina that this is not just an Aussie spirit thing, although we claim it as unique. I think it is world wide, where we support our own.

    But who will support Rio?

  4. So good when people pull together. There seems to be an excess of rain all over the southern hemisphere. It must be tough when you have other problems and then floods on top.

  5. It always amazes me. The whole world can't get along at all but when a tragedy hits, so many people come together and help each other in more ways that we can count. I heard on our news this morning that it would take a few months to clean. Hope it happens faster than that for all of you.

  6. Heartwarming to see people stepping in to help others. Thanks for the good coverage. It's all been so emotional even to someone like me who's thousands of kms from "Down Under" Have a safe week ahead, Bill. Greetings from Jo
